Freedom

We All Long For It

Hurting people want freedom.  They want… No need to feel that freedom will come for their broken heart.  The reaction to pain and a broken heart is to cover and hide.  We cover our hurt with anger, addictions and bitterness, or hide from the very relationships that could give life, healing and safety. Freedom is revealed in the recognition that we have a choice.  You have a choice to move toward freedom not away.  Hurting people are afraid to risk again.  Freedom is the understanding that you have a choice.  You are never without a choice.

If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there;
if you’re kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath. Psalms 34:18 MSG

I have found growth away from pain happens when you can see outside of yourself. Freedom begins to happen when you are willing to risk again.  Willing to love and be loved.  It is the choice to love others and yourself while walking in relationship with them.

True freedom is never freedom from responsibility, but responsibility not only for choice, but right choices. Freedom is  contentment with who we are in Christ and with what we have in Him.  True freedom flows out of total commitment to Jesus Christ. In Him and His purposes, we find true freedom—the freedom to be what we were designed to be and thus experience true joy. Using our freedom to protect or indulge ourselves never satisfies the inner core longings of the heart. Instead it destroys the soul’s capacity to relate to others, and leads either to the neglect of others or their exploitation. Thus, we are to voluntarily, out of love, serve one another.

It is absolutely clear that God has called you to a free life. Just make sure that you don’t use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom. Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that’s how freedom grows. For everything we know about God’s Word is summed up in a single sentence: Love others as you love yourself. That’s an act of true freedom. If you bite and ravage each other, watch out—in no time at all you will be annihilating each other, and where will your precious freedom be then? Galatians 5:13-15 MSG

  1.  They want… No need to feel that freedom will come for their broken heart.  The reaction to pain and a broken heart is to cover and hide. Where did you get this information?

    • We are always doing one of 3 things – moving toward something (this is what we want), moving against something or moving away from something. The reaction to emotional pain for most people is to move away – step away self protect and sometimes hide.
